Le Bombarde is one of the best-known beaches on the Alghero coast and a classic stop on the Riviera del Corallo. Surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and backed by a pine grove, it combines pale sand, transparent water and a lively summer atmosphere within easy reach of the city.
The sea is usually clear and intensely colored, with a sandy seabed that makes the beach attractive to swimmers and families. Rocky sections at the edges of the bay add variety and are good places for snorkeling.
How to get there
Le Bombarde is a short drive from Alghero and can also be reached by public transport in summer. The seasonal AF line connects Alghero, Fertilia and Le Bombarde. Parking is available close to the pine grove, including spaces suitable for larger vehicles. Alghero-Fertilia Airport is only about seven kilometres away.
The beach is part of the wider Porto Conte Regional Natural Park area, where Mediterranean scrub, coastal habitats and wildlife meet. Visitors may see gulls, birds of prey and small mammals in the surrounding vegetation.
Food, atmosphere and history
Several beach bars and restaurants operate in and around the area during the season, offering seafood, snacks and drinks. The beach became especially fashionable in the 1960s and 1970s, when the Alghero coast attracted artists, filmmakers and international visitors.
The origin of the name ‘Le Bombarde’ is often linked either to old military activity or to the booming sound of waves hitting the rocks during rough weather. Whatever its origin, the name is now inseparable from Alghero’s seaside identity.
Best time to go
The main season runs from May to October. June and September are excellent for visitors who want warm weather with a calmer atmosphere, while July and August are busier and more energetic.
Le Bombarde is a strong choice for anyone staying in Alghero: close enough for an easy day trip, but surrounded by enough nature to feel far from the city.
