There is no train from Olbia to Porto Cervo. If you are arriving by rail in Olbia or landing at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, the final journey to Porto Cervo has to be made by road. In summer, the easiest public-transport option is a direct bus linking Olbia Airport with Porto Cervo and other Costa Smeralda resorts. ARST regional buses can also be useful, while a taxi or pre-booked transfer is the simpler option for late arrivals, families or travelers carrying a lot of luggage.
The confusion is understandable because Olbia does have a railway station and a useful regional train line. Trenitalia's 2026 summer service runs between Olbia and Golfo Aranci, with stops including Rudalza, Marinella and Cala Sabina. Porto Cervo, however, is not on the railway network.
The summer direct bus from Olbia Airport
For the 2026 summer season, Sun Lines Line 20 provides a particularly convenient connection from Olbia Airport toward Porto Cervo, Baja Sardinia, Cannigione and Isuledda. The published timetable is valid from June 1 to September 30.
From Olbia Airport, the 2026 timetable lists departures at 10:00, 12:30, 16:00 and 19:00. The service uses the airport bus area at stands 6 and/or 7 and then continues north through the Costa Smeralda area.
This is the closest thing to a simple airport-to-resort connection for travelers who do not want to rent a car. It avoids taking a train into Olbia only to discover that the railway does not continue to Porto Cervo.
Because this is a seasonal service, travelers outside June through September should not assume Line 20 is operating. Always recheck the timetable for the actual travel date.
What if you are starting in Olbia city?
Travelers staying in Olbia or arriving by train can also use road connections toward the Costa Smeralda. ARST Line 601 is the main regional corridor from Olbia toward San Pantaleo, Arzachena, Palau and Santa Teresa Gallura.
Not every 601 journey runs directly into Porto Cervo. Current ARST and Port of Olbia information shows that some 601 connections serve Porto Cervo via coordinated connections around Arzachena, along with Cannigione and Baja Sardinia. That means it is important to check the individual journey rather than simply boarding any bus marked 601.
Olbia's current rail station is Olbia Terranova. The 2026 ARST timetable shows numerous Line 601 departures from Olbia Terranova toward Arzachena and the northern Gallura corridor, but the stopping pattern and connection requirements vary by service.
Can you take a train part of the way?
Technically, you could use Sardinia's railway for a different coastal destination, but it does not create a useful train route to Porto Cervo. Trenitalia's summer Olbia–Golfo Aranci line runs east and northeast through places such as Rudalza, Marinella and Cala Sabina before reaching Golfo Aranci.
Porto Cervo lies on a different road corridor, northwest of Olbia. Taking the train toward Golfo Aranci therefore does not solve the Porto Cervo journey and can make the trip more complicated.
If Porto Cervo is your destination, think in terms of bus, taxi, private transfer or rental car, not train.
From Olbia Airport: bus or transfer?
The direct summer bus is attractive for solo travelers and couples who want to keep costs down and whose flight arrives conveniently before a scheduled departure. It also removes the stress of driving immediately after a flight.
A private transfer or taxi becomes more practical when the flight arrives late, the bus schedule requires a long wait, or several people are sharing the fare. Families traveling with children and substantial luggage may also prefer door-to-door transport rather than handling bags at bus stops.
Porto Cervo is not one single compact transport terminal. Hotels, villas, Porto Cervo Marina and surrounding Costa Smeralda properties can be spread out, so check the location of the bus stop against the accommodation before choosing public transport.
What about arriving at Olbia Port?
Passengers arriving by ferry at Isola Bianca have several public-transport options. The Port of Olbia's current information lists Sun Lines Line 20 toward Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo, Baja Sardinia, Cannigione and Isuledda during its operating season.
The port also lists ARST Line 601 services toward San Pantaleo and Arzachena, with some coordinated journeys connecting onward to Porto Cervo and other Costa Smeralda destinations.
Again, the individual timetable matters. A route description showing Porto Cervo in parentheses can indicate a connection rather than a single through bus.
When a rental car makes sense
If Porto Cervo is only one stop on a longer Costa Smeralda trip, a rental car can be much more useful than relying entirely on buses. Beaches such as Capriccioli, Spiaggia del Principe and smaller coves around Arzachena are easier to combine when you control your own schedule.
A car is less essential if the plan is to stay mainly at a resort and use hotel transport, taxis or organized boat trips. Parking and summer traffic also need to be considered during peak season.
For travelers who do rent, Olbia Airport has a large concentration of rental companies, making it the natural pickup point for the northeast of Sardinia.
How long should you allow?
Road travel time varies with traffic, stops and the exact destination in Porto Cervo. Summer congestion can be significant on Costa Smeralda roads, so do not build a tight connection around the theoretical driving time shown by a navigation app.
Public buses naturally take longer than a direct car because they serve intermediate stops. If you have a fixed boat departure, dinner reservation or hotel check-in deadline, leave a generous margin.
The simplest plan
If you land at Olbia Airport during the 2026 summer season and your timing matches Sun Lines Line 20, the direct bus is the most straightforward public-transport solution. If you are starting at Olbia Terranova station or elsewhere in the city, check the current ARST 601 journey planner and whether the specific service requires a connection at Arzachena.
For arrivals outside the seasonal bus window, late at night or with a group, compare a taxi or pre-booked transfer. And if you plan to explore multiple beaches and villages around the Costa Smeralda, renting a car may save substantial time.
The one option not to plan around is the train. Sardinia's railway reaches Olbia, Golfo Aranci and several nearby stops, but it does not extend to Porto Cervo. Once you reach Olbia, the rest of the journey is by road.
